Responsibility

Responsibility is integral part of how we do business and supports our core values. We believe that where we can make a difference we should.

Equality Diversity Inclusion

Equality, Diversity & Inclusion

We are committed to creating a truly equal, diverse and inclusive workforce and inspiring the industry to make necessary change.

It has become clear that as an industry there are still many challenges we face surrounding a lack of diversity and inclusion. As a business we want to lead the way in taking action to not just simply address the issues but to take the necessary steps to overcome them and deliver on our commitment.

A commitment that is essential for futureproofing the skills needed for long-term sustainability in the industry. By appreciating and celebrating each other’s individuality we are able to unlock their full potential and foster the innovation, creativity, productivity that being a diverse and inclusive business brings and the industry needs.

Over recent years we have worked hard to create a safe, nurturing environment where the wellbeing of our people comes first and we celebrate each other’s individuality and brilliance. Our company values have been key to accelerating the inclusive culture we have created where we appreciate each and every individual.

We have made great strides in breaking down barriers of gender specific roles and attracting and broader pool of talent through our Engineering Young Talent Programme, open days, school visits and graduate scheme. We’ve also embraced flexible working to accommodate and retain a wider range of talent and their commitments outside of work.

Our people are what make our business and our success is as a result of drawing from the variety of expertise, knowledge and skills each individual brings.

By working together and eliminating discrimination we can ensure that every individual is given the opportunity to achieve the incredible.

Environment & Sustainability

Climate change is one of the greatest challenges we will ever face.

The world is getting warmer, sea levels are rising, Ecosystems have been destroyed. Poor air quality is affecting the health of tens of millions of people. Extreme weather events including floods, wildfires, droughts and storms taking place around the world are intensifying as a result of climate change with devastating environmental, social and economic impacts. The world can no longer withstand the damage that humanity has inflicted upon it. Despite commitments and progress in the fight against climate change enough hasn't been done and we need to take urgent action fast.

Science has shown us that global warming is on track to exceed a rise of 2%, however if we take collaborative action now, we can limit it to 1.5% and prevent further damage to the planet.

The built environment plays a significant role in the climate change crisis accounting for 39% of all the carbon emissions in the world. In an industry that for too long has been a part of the problem, we are committed to becoming part of the solution and shaping a safer, sustainable future.

Health & Safety

Health & Safety

We are committed to an incident-free workplace where everybody goes home safe

IFW (Incident Free Workplace) is an approach we’ve adopted to managing safety, where an efficient safety management system that supports the business is complemented by a culture of care and concern, intolerant of any incidents or injuries, with a firm belief that all injuries are avoidable.

IFW encompasses all areas of the business, from design and construction sites through to administration. The power of strong relationships is recognised and supported. In an IFW workplace, the safety management system is clear and easily understood, and our people are encouraged, empowered, and positively acknowledged for speaking up on any safety concerns. People follow the safety rules as a positive choice, not just by compulsion. They choose to be responsible for their own safety, and for the safety of those around them.

At an IFW work site, safety exists not only as a priority, but as a core organisational value. IFW is not just a set of rules, but a holistic approach encompassing positive development of individuals, their attitudes and behaviours, along with organisational culture and supporting systems through coaching, learning and disciplinary action as the last resort.

When an incident occurs, the focus of investigation is not blame, but one of, what can we learn as an organisation to have a safer workplace, and sharing these learnings across the organisation to achieve continuous improvement.

Social Value

Supporting our Local Communities

As a business, we understand that we play a role in shaping and building the future of the communities we operate in. We consider it our responsibility to understand the needs of areas we work in and deliver social value to create thriving communities, resilient economies and long lasting legacies.

We have a long standing history of making an impact in the local communities we work in and are committed to continuing to make a difference to society. In each project we deliver we add value to the community by providing local employment, training and developing local workforces, volunteering and giving back through our charitable work.

We know that though engaging early, identifying areas where our help is needed the most, aligning our goals and working collaboratively we can achieve the highest impact.

Social Value

Local Employment

In every area we operate in we employ people locally, not only does this benefit local communities and economies, it also supports our net zero carbon commitment by reducing travel emissions.

Community Partnerships

We are proud to create long lasting legacies in the communities we work in through training, developing and upskilling people, working with local schools, colleges and training providers to support their development. Our award winning Engineering Young Talent Programme has inspired many young people into a career in engineering. We provide apprenticeships to develop the skills of the next generation, adapting and aligning the programme with the evolving requirements of the industry.

Giving Back

We are passionate about making a difference and giving back into the community through volunteering and charity partnerships. We have a long standing history of participating in a variety of initiatives and fundraising events to raise funds for local charities. This year, we’ve partnered with Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital charity and set ourselves a fundraising target of £20,000 to raise funds for pioneering research into preventing, treating and curing complex illnesses in children.
