What is your background / experience in?

My background is predominately electrical, I am qualified in the design, erection, and verification of electrical installations. I have spent several years working in the nuclear industry as an electrical / mechanical project engineer and commissioning engineer.

What is involved in your role?

My current role for Exyte Hargreaves is as a project engineer and package manager for the HVAC, smoke ventilation and electrical control systems on Keadby 2. I am responsible for overseeing the final installation stages of the LTHW heating system, commissioning of the BMS and smoke control systems. My current role is largely based on coordinating / managing commissioning works with the principle contractor and various other sub-contractors.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I enjoy this stage of the project when the plant becomes live because i feel a sense of achievement. I can feel a sense of pride when all the hard work of the team can finally be realised.

What challenges have you had to overcome?

The major challenge has been working on a project through a pandemic. Working methods have had to be readjusted to allow for social distancing. Coordination and building working relationships have also been more difficult.

Can you share an update on the progress of the project?

We are currently in the final commissioning stage of the Keadby 2 project. The installation works are now complete and we are concentrating on the setting to work of our systems. Several systems have been put into service, and we are now focused on the system integration between ourselves and others.

What other projects have you worked?

I’ve also worked on SILWE, Hunterston as an EC&I commissioning engineer.
